November birthdays can choose Topaz or Citrine? It just depends whether you prefer a modern vs traditional.

Topaz gemstone is traditionally associated with November birthdays, and comes in a beautiful golden color. However, the modern birthstone is Citrine.

Citrine is also a beautiful gold color but with a greater resistance to breaking than Topaz, it may also be a better choice to be worn as a ring if you are hard on your jewelry.

Spiritual Meaning and Folklore of Citrine

Citrine is actually a type of quartz, with colors ranging from light lemon to an earthy brown, with a variation of orange hues in between.

Citrine regained popularity in the 19th century when Queen Victoria used to wear it. Later on during the Art Deco period (c. 1908 – 1935) it was used in expensive jewelry.

Inspiring jewelers to create similar pieces for the Hollywood elite, such as Joan Crawford and Greta Garbo.

Citrine is the stone associated with the 13th anniversary.

Citrine Symbolism

Citrine has been sought after for its healing properties since ancient times. It is said to chase away negativity and rejuvenate the body, soul and mind.

Topaz

Topaz comes in many colors including a golden color, known as Golden topaz.  If you are not too fond of the gold you could always choose a different color.

Golden or yellow topaz is believed to be a soothing stone, associated with empathy and serenity.

Topaz is also the gemstone for the 4th anniversary.

Historically, the ancient Greeks believed Topaz to increase both physical and mental strength, as such. it was also worn as a talisman.

The ancient Egyptians also held similar beliefs, and used golden topaz to make amulets for protection and security.

Care and Cleaning

While Citrine and Topaz are fairly stable gemstones, they can still be damaged by heat. The use of chemical of ultrasonic cleaners are also not recommended.

Simply clean with warm soapy water, rinse and polish.
